What’s often missing isn’t creativity. It’s access, guidance, and a clear pathway forward.
nextWAV. exists to find that talent early and give it the structure, support, and real-world knowledge of what’s needed to grow – because building a career in music takes more than talent. It takes time, discipline, and a commitment to excellence – it’s for those who are willing to put in the work.
Powered by Universal Music NZ, nextWAV. is a brand new artist development programme designed for secondary-level students aged 16-18 across Aotearoa.
This year, up to 10 students will be selected to take part in a structured, real-world development programme that goes beyond talent – focusing on building the skills, mindset, and understanding required to operate as a recording artist releasing music in 2026 and beyond.
nextWAV. celebrates the rich cultural diversity of Aotearoa and actively supports young artists who wish to create and release music in te reo Māori and Pacific languages, helping ensure these stories and voices continue to thrive through music.
The programme combines:
This is about unlocking potential and empowering the next wave.
